Rajinikanth was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad. The hospital issued a statement that said “though he did not show any symptoms of COVID-19, his blood pressure showed severe fluctuations and needed further evaluation for which he has been admitted to hospital”. Apollo Hospitals said Rajinikanth will be investigated and monitored till his blood pressure settles down.

“Apart from fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion, he does not have any other symptoms and is hemodynamically stable,” Apollo Hospitals said.

Rajinikanth had been shooting for a movie in Hyderabad when some people on the set were diagnosed with COVID-19. At least eight crew members of the film, Annaatthe, tested positive. Rajinikanth went into isolation, even though he had tested negative for COVID-19.

A buzz had been building up around Rajinikanth after he said he would formally announce his political party on December 31. Rajinikanth had indicated his party would contest the 2021 Assembly polls.
