Surat Postal Ballot Voting 2026: 5,000 Police & Govt Employees Cast Votes Early

Postal ballot voting commenced on Wednesday morning in Surat amid preparations for the upcoming local self-government elections and by-polls. The special voting arrangement has been set up at the Surat Police Headquarters to facilitate police personnel, Home Guard jawans, and essential government staff who will be on duty on polling day.

From early morning, long queues of employees were seen at the venue, enthusiastically exercising their democratic right. Voting began at 9 am and is scheduled to continue till late evening, ensuring that all eligible personnel get an opportunity to cast their votes in advance.

According to officials, more than 5,000 voters are expected to participate in the postal ballot process in the district. This includes members of the police force, Home Guards, and various government departments engaged in essential election duties. Since these personnel play a crucial role in maintaining law and order during polling, the Election Commission has made provisions for them to vote beforehand.

The entire exercise is being conducted under the supervision of the district administration, led by the Election Officer and Collector, with special arrangements in place to ensure smooth and transparent voting. The Police Headquarters has been converted into a designated polling station with separate sections to streamline the process and avoid congestion.

Strict security measures have been implemented at the venue. Senior police officials and Home Guard personnel are deployed to oversee the arrangements. To maintain transparency and security, videography is being conducted outside the voting compartments, recording the movement of voters from entry to ballot submission while ensuring secrecy inside the voting area.

Authorities have emphasized that all precautions are being taken to uphold the integrity of the process. Representatives of political parties have also been allowed to monitor the proceedings to ensure fairness.

As per election rules, postal ballots are counted first on the day of vote counting. These early votes often set the trend for the final results. With nearly 5,000 votes being cast through this method in Surat, they could significantly influence the outcome of closely contested seats.

The administration has also ensured that all ballot papers will be securely stored in strong rooms and safely transported for counting on the designated day, maintaining the sanctity of the electoral process.
