Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR Society, this morning at 11 AM through virtual mode. Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will also be present during the meeting.
The Society is part of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Its activities are carried out through 37 laboratories and 39 outreach centres spread across the country. Eminent scientists, industrialists and senior officials of Scientific Ministries form part of the Society, which meets annually.
The Prime Minister who is also President of CSIR chairs the meeting of the CSIR Society. Ever since the first case of Covid-19 was reported in the country in January last year, the scientific community at CSIR rose to the occasion and contributed in various forms, sometimes outside their mandate, to put up a fight against this pandemic.
CSIR converted challenges into opportunities and for the first time in its history, all the laboratories of CSIR pooled their strengths and focussed their energies on one problem at hand, the COVID-19. Be it drugs, vaccines, testing, sequencing, PPEs, hospital assistive devices, masks, sanitizers, disinfection systems, CSIR came up with quick and innovative solutions in the fight against Covid-19.
