Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he plans to give up his social media
accounts on various platforms, including Twitter and Facebook.
“This
Sunday, thinking of giving up my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram &YouTube. Will keep you all posted,” he tweeted.
The prime
minister is quite active on social media, especially on Twitter where he has
53.3 million followers. With over 30 million followers, Modi is the most
followed world leader on Instagram, much ahead of US President Donald Trump who
currently has 14.9 million followers.
The Facebook
page of the prime minister has been liked by 44,722,235 people and an equal
amount of people follow his page.
Within a few
minutes, the tweet had been retweeted thousands of times, with many of his
followers urging him to reconsider the idea of quitting the social media.
While some
wondered if this was his attempt to detoxify or even stem the hate messages
being spread through social media.
