As a part of the Swachhta Pakhwada, Headquarters Coast Guard Region (North-West) Gandhinagar organized a special plogging event at sector -13 on 07 Dec 19 Saturday. The service personnel from Indian Coast Guard fraternity commenced the event from Coast Guard inliving block at sector-13 to the welfare centre situated about 2 KMs away.


The motto of this event was to promote and publicise the Government of India's efforts to make aware and enlighten about the ill-effects of plastic bags, stop using them to improve our environment and save it from degradation. Plastic bags are major source of plastic pollution as they are non biodegradable, and take years to decompose. It remains in the land which contributes to the rising problem of land pollution. Plastic bags contaminate the soil causing hindrance to growth of plants and causing infertility in soil.

In order to promote this noble initiative taken by Ministry of Defence, as part of “Swachhta Pakhwada", "Plogging Event" is being organized pan Indian by all defence personnel. The event "PLASTIC SE RAKSHA – SWACHHTA HI SURAKSHA'' was inaugurated by Chief Guest, IG Rakesh Pal, PTM, TM Commander, Coast Guard Region(NW) in presence of Deputy Inspector General Rajesh Makwana, TM & BAR, Chief of Staff. While engaged in picking up of plastic litter in the area, the personnel sensitized the local population about the ill effect of plastic and promoted the alternatives of plastic available easily in the surrounding.
