A batch of 42 officers of Electrical Specialisation Course O-171, comprising 32 from the Indian Navy, 3 from the Indian Coast Guard and 7 from Friendly Foreign Countries of Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Ghana passed out at INS Valsura, Jamnagar.

The parade marked the culmination of 95 weeks of professional training in Electrical Specialisation. The parade was reviewed by Rear Admiral B Sivakumar, VSM, Command Staff Officer (Technical), Western Naval Command, Mumbai, who was presented Guard of Honour. The parade was witnessed by distinguished guests from Jamnagar and families of the officers.

Following the march past, the Chief Guest awarded prizes to meritorious officers for excelling in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities. The coveted Chief of Naval Staff Rolling Trophy for standing First in the Fleet Competency Board and Admiral Ramnath Trophy for the ‘Best All-Round Officer’ was awarded to Second Lieutenant Himanshu Kasana. The Commander AR Khandekar trophy for standing First in Overall Order of Merit was awarded to Second Lieutenant Deepak Kumar, while Assistant Commandant Chetan Chaturvedi was awarded the Director General Coast Guard Trophy for ‘Best All-Round Coast Guard Officer’.

In addition, Second Lieutenant Abhinav Gupta bagged the Commanding Officer, INS Valsura Trophy for ‘Best Sportsperson’ while Lieutenant KWRCB Kapukotuwa from Sri Lankan Navy won the Book Prize for standing First in Overall Order of Merit amongst International Trainees.

On completion of the march past, the Admiral addressed the parade, wherein he congratulated the officers of the passing out course, especially the award winners, and exhorted them to strive for higher professional standards at all times. He emphasized that learning is a continuous process and officers need to keep themselves technologically abreast and in date at all times.

The Admiral also complimented INS Valsura for imparting quality training and encouraged the unit to live up to its motto – ‘The Light that Emanates from here, Illuminates all’.
