From now a passenger will not be charged any extra for using debit or credit card at PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counters as the Indian Railways has decided to do away with Rs 30 service charge beginning next month.

According to the Indian Railways Ministry official this service will be effective from 1st June 2016.He said no service charge shall be levied on purchase of journey tickets at PRS counters through credit/debit cards. Because Passenger prefer to give cash for tickets rather than to spend extra money (Service tax) on  debit /credit cards on PRS counters

However, the service charge for booking tickets online through IRCTC website will remain unaffected.
