Hidden Gold Room and Rs 50 Lakh Cash Seized During IT Raids at Jaipur’s Kanha Group, Authorities Probe Financial Irregularities
In a dramatic real-life incident that mirrors scenes from the Bollywood film Raid, the Income Tax Department (ITD) carried out an extensive crackdown on Rajasthan’s Kanha Group, uncovering a hidden strong room behind a secret wall in Jaipur filled with gold jewellery worth several crores of rupees.
The raids, which began on Wednesday, spanned 33 locations across six cities, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Sriganganagar, Kota, Karauli, Hindaun, and even Mumbai, with Jaipur witnessing the highest number of searches at 26 sites. Officials reportedly recovered over 10 bank lockers, large sums of cash, and a trove of documents suggesting the company had allegedly concealed wealth to evade taxes.
Investigations revealed that the group, which has built a reputation in Rajasthan as a leading food and beverage company since its founding by Natwar Lal Sharda in 2008, had invested over Rs 100 crore in luxury hotels, prompting officials to raid Hotel Taj (Amer) and Kundan Van (Jaipur) to examine their records.
Over the course of the three-day operation, officials found suspicious documents, property papers, and other evidence pointing to systematic financial irregularities and tax evasion. Despite the scale of the crackdown, Kanha Group restaurants continue to operate normally, with the ITD taking care to ensure that customers do not face any disruption.
The raids have drawn attention nationwide, highlighting not only the bold concealment of assets behind secret walls but also the government’s intensified efforts to clamp down on corporate tax evasion, sending a strong message to businesses engaging in financial malpractice.
