Former India Test Captain Anil Kumble appointed as New Head coach of Indian cricket team, BCCI announced in Dharamshala on Thrusday 23rd june 2016.
The decision was taken by the cricket advisory committee of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Saurav Ganguly.
Anil Kumble who also captained the Indian Cricket Team and gave his services for team as a leg spinner for many years, he achieved many milestones in his carrier as a player.
“After doing discussions with various stakeholders we have selected Anil Kumble for a period of one year,” said BCCI president Anurag Thakur.
The 45-year-old spin great was chosen from a list of 57 applications received by the BCCI which was later pruned and placed in front of an advisory panel.
Anil Kumble bagged 619 Test wickets in 132 matches and is only the second bowler in cricket history after England’s Jim Laker to have taken all 10 in a Test innings.
After announcement of Anil Kumble as a coach of Indian cricket team, he said “ I know it’s a huge responsibility. I am looking forward to contributing back to Indian cricket and to meeting all the players and then understand each other“.
His first coaching assignment will be India’s upcoming tour of the West Indies in July.
