Provide hands on experience to learn the latest technologies and put them into practice with their own ideas.

With changing times new requirements and needs are also increasing and we try to find out better solutions to meet them. This is where innovation takes place with new ideas, creative thoughts and new imaginations. Innovation is generally considered as the result of a process that brings together various novel ideas in such a way that they affect the society.

In order to develop innovation it is necessary to engage children at the very young age right from their school. New Era School is one such institute which was selected by the government under the aegis of ATAL INNOVATION MISSION initiated by Niti Aayog to extend grant to set up the ATAL Tinkering Lab based on school’s outstanding contribution to the field of education and innovative practices.

The students of New Era shared their knowledge with the visiting students of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Prathmik Shala to have a glimpse of the ATL activities. They shared the insight details of the lab and show them the working models.

The school has paved their way to spur the spark of creativity and go beyond regular curriculum and textbook learning with the well designed lab activities at ATL. It aims to provide hands on experience to the students to learn the latest technologies and put them into practice with their own ideas. It also helps them to apply the concepts they’ve been learning in books to real life situations.

The grant given by the government has helped to provide tools and equipment to the students for practical exposure to STEAM (Acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math),which includes various DO IT YOURSELF KITS, ROBOTICS KITS, ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENTS, SENSORS, MICRO~ CONTROLLER BOARDS , 3D PRINTERS which are essential to develop 21St century technology skills.

With the grant of 12 lakhs (out of 20) the ATAL Tinkering Laboratory was inaugurated by Dr. Vipin Kumar (Director) National Innovation Foundation on 18th October,2018. Over 500 students from class 6 to 12 get the opportunity to visit the lab and understand the working of the equipments under the guidance of 6 school teachers who have received special training to mentor the students apart from a mentor appointed by Niti Aayog.

"It's a long process to get the recognition for the ATL as from filling the form till audit and checking it took around one year time. They check the infrastructure, faculties, overall performance, innovative practices and community involvement like criterias in their report. Every 15th we have to update the details and activities on the ATL dash board online," said Priyadarshini Kelkar director New Era Senior Secondary school.

The school so far have been able to foster inventiveness among students, through activities such as-:

a) Monthly programs to teach and explain to the students about different concepts ranging from ideation, design, proto-typing, networking to physical computing by a mentor appointed by Niti Aayog and in house trained teachers.

b) Periodic inter school, regional and national level competitions based on science and technology. (1) Workshops on ideation, problem solving and designing.

c) Interactions with learned personalities and organizing popular STEM talks by reputed university professors and industry heads and Screening of videos on various innovative ideas/inventions for students from class 6 to 12.

Operation of the ATL is monitored on a suitable periodic basis by an advisory body comprising of a team of dedicated professionals from different fields like industries, universities etc.

The have been using their ideas to solve real life problems and find solutions which can help the community at large. They made many working models like HOME AUTOMATION, LINE TRACKER ROBOT, AUTOMA TIC HAND WASH, WRONG SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM, WA TER LEVEL CONTROLLER, BURGLAR ALARM, LOW VISIBILITY ACCIDENT PREVENTION SYSTEM, TRAFFIC MONITORING SYSTEM AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS, AUTOMA TIC DRIP IRRIGA TION, TRASHERGENT, SMARTID CARD,SMART BLADE F OR WOMEN PROTECTION, etc. to name a few.

The students have also won accolades for their innovative ideas, projects and prototypes at various inter school, regional and national level competitions.

Two entries from school selected among best 200 entries all over India at a national level competition organized by ATAL INNOVATION MISSION titled “ATL MARATHON” . The selected will represent Gujarat State at CBSE NATIONAL SCIENCE EXHIBITION.

1st and 3rd prize (Nanubhai Amin Award) for Innovative Science Exhibits organized by National Science Community Center, Vadodara. 2nd and 3rd prize at a state level competition organized by MSU titled “Ideathon”. 1st prize for being the best innovative project in a state level competition organized by Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad and 2nd and 3rd prize at SCI-PO-TECH competition organized by Podar World School, Vadodara.
