Navrachana School wins Finals on NewsWiz

When the Navrachana School Sama team of Sujay Nigam and Amar Mishra (Class XII, Science) quietly moved ahead to get 1200+ points and win the national Finals of the India Today TV’s NewsWiz, Quiz Contest hosted by Rajdeep Sardesai, they proved what Aroon Purie of India Today meant when he said how this Quiz Competition was attracting talented students from ‘small towns’ across India, such as Tezpur, Jamshedpur, Vadodara, etc. Sujay and Amar have brought not just Navrachana at the centre stage but schooling standards in Vadodara and Gujarat as well.
The team, trained and coached by their teacher, Tushar Upadhyay, started their journey watching the previous edition of the Quiz Competition that they found both exciting and challenging. They wasted no time in registering for this year’s competition.
With their personal rigorous preparations strengthened with infrastructural support from the school, an understanding mentor in Tushar Sir, and emotional support from their mothers, both students successfully passed the elementary rounds through online tests via Skype and qualified for the quarter-finals.
Keeping a cool head and not giving in to nervous attacks, they sailed through, emerging winners to reach the Finals. The two boys were coached in life skills like coping with stress, adjusting proactively to circumstances, and taking failure and success as learning experiences from their ever encouraging Director, Bijoya Baksi. A focused amount of the right reading, Internet surfing, and random questions on Whatsapp was coupled with a vigorous practice on buzzers for the audio-visual round.
These efforts paid off when the boys stood their ground with confidence and roundly beat the teams from Vidya Mandir, Chennai and St. Joseph’s, Bangalore, to win the Finals.
Explains Sujay, “We were completely in sync with the processes and procedures of the Quiz and both of us never felt any pressure or nerves. Our systematic division of study topics helped us to be well acquainted with facts and figures – we loved the audio visual rounds. Tushar Sir would challenge us all the time and this helped to keep us alert and aware.”
“The Navrachana School believes in instilling in their students a thirst to know and learn, arouse their curiosity through challenging tasks, expose them to the best A grade competitions, give them decision-making and leadership opportunities and a tremendous amount of freedom to ask questions,” smiles Bijoya Baksi, Principal, explaining the unique ability that marks most of the high achiever-students of the school.
“Yes,” continues Tejal Amin, Chairperson, Navrachana Education Society, “As soon as this team is back from this Competition, Sujay Nigam is all set for the TCS IT WIZ Quiz at National level in Mumbai whereas Amar Mishra will head to conquer the CBSE Cryptic Crossword Competition at New Delhi in December 2017. Mind you, both are Class XII students. This confirms our faith that bright students flower and do well when such opportunities are available to them and strengthens their abilities in cracking Board and competitive examinations!”
