National Green Tribunal order for satellite mapping of illegal encroachment around the Vishwamitri River passing through the center of Vadodara city. Environmentalist Rohit Prajapati has filed a case in the National Green Tribunal for reviving the Vishwamitri river.
It is to be mentioned here that Vishwamitri river flowing through the center of the city has turned into a drain due to the negligence of the system. If that's not all people have done haphazard constructions on the banks of the river. In addition, some builders have filled into the river on a large scale to make their projects successful. As the identity of Vishwamitri is being erased day by day, environmentalist Rohit Prajapati has filed a case in the National Tribunal for the removal of encroachments and bring the river in its original form. Giving its judgement the tribunal ordered to report by mapping from satellite.
Environmentalist Rohit Prajapati said the Vishwamitri River, which runs through the center of the city, starts from Pavagadh and reaches Pingalwada. A case was filed to revive the Vishwamitri river, in particular, buildings have been built on the lands around Vishwamitri. Not only that, in some places the corporation itself has dumped garbage in the Vishwamitri river bed and leveled it.
He further said that Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan is polluting the Vishwamitri river by discharging sewage water. The case was pending before the National Green Tribunal in which the tribunal ordered for satellite mapping about illegal construction and dumping of waste in the river bed. At the same time, the court said that efforts should be made not to discharge polluted water into the Vishwamitri river and to ensure that clean water flows.
