A taluka level control room was started at Savli veterinary hospital as part of intensive precaution against bird flu. Following the instructions of the District Collector and District Development Officer to keep vigil, a district level control room has been started on the first floor of District Panchayat Bhavan, Vadodara which will be operational round the clock. The contact number is 0265/2438110.

Giving information, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry of Vadodara District Panchayat Dr. Prakash Darji said that the strain of bird flu that has been seen is rarely transmitted from bird to human. That is why it is necessary to take proper precaution instead of panic. He added that special care is being taken at present in poultries.

As a part of this, a meeting was held with the administrators of such institutions in all the 8 talukas of Vadodara district to discuss the do’s and don’ts in the current situation. They were given detailed information and guidance as per the government guidelines and SOP.

Dr. Darji He said that especially the foreign birds that come to the wetland are carriers of the bird flu virus but these birds are not affected. The disease is more likely to be contracted when native birds are mixed with Wetland water and such contaminated water is consumed by native birds.

Correspondingly, two teams from the Animal Husbandry Department along with the Forest Department are keeping a close watch on the Wadhwana Wet Land in the district. So far no incident of bird death has been reported at this place.
