A Congress legislator’s house in north Bengaluru was attacked by a mob on Tuesday night over an alleged derogatory Facebook post.
Pulakeshinagar MLA R. Akhanda Srinivas Murthy’s house at Kaval Byrasandra in north Bengaluru was attacked by the mob who alleged that a Facebook post by the legislator’s relative was offensive to Islam.
The huge mob of nearly a thousand people vandalised the locked house of the legislator, who was away at the time of the attack. The attackers not only threw stones at the house demanding the arrest of the MLA and his relative, but also went on a rampage and torched the vehicles parked on the road.
The police rushed to the spot to control the violence. The attackers later staged a protest in front of the police station demanding an FIR against the MLA.
Even as the situation remained volatile, Congress leader and Chamrajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan arrived in D.J. Halli police station to lodge a complaint against the MLA’s kin.
“The community is furious and the situation is going out of control. I am in the police station along with religious leaders of our community to file the complaint. We will stage a protest tomorrow,” said Zameer Ahmed.
