Modi Government is working very good on the network of roads across the
India. With the development of roads they are also working on ‘Road Safety’.
The ministry of Road Transport and Highway use to allocate funds to the
state governments and union Territories for development of state
roads. The ministry has taken a decision that recently they will allocate 10% fund to the State Governments and UTs for road safety works.
The ministry has package of Rs 600 crore for road safety works on national highways for the year 2016-17. Further ministry has a budget of Rs 80 crore for implementing schemes to promote road safety through awareness campaigns, imparting driving training, etc.
For road safety works ministry is implementing provisions of service of roads, improvement of junctions, provision of foot over bridges, taking up road safety audits and follow up actions thereto, etc.
The highest number of road fatalities in India (1,37,572), followed by United States ( 32,719 ) and Russian Federation ( 27,025 ) for the
year 2013, as per WRS 2015.
Total 5,01,423 number of Road Accidents and 1,46,133 Personals killed in accidents in India for the calendar year 2015. In Gujarat 23,183 accidents took place and 8,119 people died in 2015 due to accidents.
