Drill for the preparedness by chemical industries in the time of disaster and Earth quake
A Mega Mock Drill was organised at six districts of Gujarat for the preparedness by the chemical industries in the time of Earth quake. In Vadodara the drill was conducted at GSFC Nandesari Off-Site emergency where various agencies take part in exercise and response at the time of chemical disaster.
The state level mega mock exercise on Chemical industrial disaster and response at four districts of Gujarat organized by GSDMA and NDMA to ensure effective response of NDRF, SDRF, Civil Police, Traffic Police, Home Guards, Fire Service, Civil Deffence, Medical Team, Ambulance (108) and others. The mock drill was conducted in six districts of Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Bharuch, Vadodara, Surat and Valsad to ensure the safety steps during chemical disaster, earth quake and aware the people.
Industrial disaster response and mitigation exercise mock drills generate mass awareness in all section of society. This kind of mock drills also develops better co-ordination which is essential to respond to actual disaster situations moreover disaster response is not only the task of specialized groups, community groups, youths working for personnel, NGOs, various authorities and civil administration also play an instrumental role for effCCtive and accountable disaster management.
The community should be aware of hazardous installations and know how to combat the situation. The local community has to be informed about the response steps to be taken in case of an accident community member should monitor the pollution levels of the industry and participate in mock drills for evacuation. It is little or no warning of industrial chemical accidents the loss incurred is very high.
There is a huge loss to life property livelihood and environment, Hazardous materials in various form can cause death, serious injury and damage to buildings, homes and other properties. The areas close to an industrial setup are under immediate threat.
Approximately, 150 personnel including an employee from a plant, NDRF, SDRF‘, Civil Police, Home Guards, Fire Service, Civil Deffence, Medical Team, Ambulance [108) and media participated in the joint mock drill.
