zoo
On Wednesday the Kamatibaug zoo celebrated the 1st Birthday of the Hippopotamus Calf ‘Mangal’ born in the year 2019 on 8th January to Female Hippopotamus “Chunnu”. Everyone present there cheered the baby and celebrated the ocassion.

The
Inspiration of a Zoo in Baroda came from H. H. Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III –
a Great Visionary Ruler of Baroda. It was way back in 1875 when a tract of land
on the bank of river Vishwamitri, on the outskirts of the city was chosen by
the Maharaja to develop a vast garden and a zoo.
The Maharaja
donated his own private collection of Indian and Exotic Animals to the Zoo and
on 8th January 1879, the park was declared open to the public.
Mangal
celebrate it’s first birthday after born to Chunnu exactly a year ago. His birth
brought delight to the zoo keepers as before a year ago the first calf died due
to a fight between the parents. On Wednesday the team celebrates the occasions
with great enthusiasm.
