Major cause for HIV infection in UP is blood transfusions

Uttar Pradesh recorded the maximum number of such cases, followed by Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi.

In past 17 months, around 2,234 people have been infected with HIV through unsafe blood transfusions across the country, while replying to RTI, National AIDS Control Organisation said.

Uttar Pradesh alone recorded 361 cases, which is the maximum occurrence in any one state, with 292 cases in Gujarat, Maharashtra with 272 cases and Delhi with 264 cases.
