Eight coaches of Mahakoshal Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district in the early hours today. Eyewitnesses present at the spot said 18 people have been injured. Six have been seriously injured and have been admitted to the Mahoba district hospital. The rest received minor injuries and have been given first aid. An official representative of the railways said no one has been injured in the incident.

Derail
The cause of derailment, which took place between Mahoba and Kulpahar – around 270 km from state capital Lucknow – shortly after 2 am, is yet to be ascertained.

The Northern Railways PRO, Manjar Karar said a coach of 2nd AC, three coaches of AC and some sleeper coaches were derailed.

The train was on its way from Jabalpur to Delhi. The railway police and the administration officials are at the spot, sources said. The area’s chief medical officer Sunil Kumar Vashnay is also present.
Derail Railway officials have operationalised helplines at Jhansi, Gwalior, Banda and Nizamuddin stations to disseminate information to relatives of the passengers.
