Long queues outside ATMs as Rs 500, Rs 1000 notes scrapped

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 40-minute speech on Tuesday evening made people across the country queue outside their nearest ATMs.

Scrapping the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes effective midnight of November 8 sent out a loud and clear message in the war on black money and corruption.

This was also a rare occasion for many to be happy to possess more notes of Rs 100 and Rs 50 than of higher values.

However, ATMs in the country were seen busier than usual on the night of November 8.
