Restrictions imposed at well known tourist spots in Lonavla

Decades-old kiosks and stalls set up on railway land near the famous Bhushi dam were removed by the Lonavla Municipal Council (LMC) and Pune district administration on Tuesday, amid police bandobast.

A few of the kiosks were close to the steps of the dam. These structures had served as major crowd-pullers at the site for the last few years.

The move follows the death of five, including four children, at Bhushi dam just days ago. Five other members of the same family were also injured in the incident.

Now, no tourists will be allowed to go beyond the west weir of Bhushi dam, no parking will be permitted on the Sahara bridge, and entry into the upper portion of three small waterfalls close to the bridge is prohibited.
