On this occasion, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are pulled through the streets of Puri. The idols are then returned to the Jagannath Temple on the ninth day.

Every year, thousands of devotees flock to Puri, Odisha, for a glimpse of Lord Jagannath.

In preparation for the world-famous yatra, the Indian Railways has announced the deployment of 315 special trains to facilitate the travel to Puri.

According to the official announcement, the Ministry of Railways has planned to run 315 special trains to ensure convenient journeys for pilgrims. The ministry also said that they expect many more pilgrims to gather at Puri this year.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised there were adequate passenger amenities and facilities during the Rath Yatra period.
