Mumbai Metro boosts services for Navratri with new Extended train schedules

Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) has announced an extension of metro train services in Mumbai to accommodate the increased travel demands during the Navratri Festival.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the corporation confirmed that additional metro services will be available from October 7 to October 11, ensuring that citizens attending late-night celebrations can travel more conveniently. 

The extension aims to provide an affordable and efficient transportation option for those taking part in the city’s vibrant Navratri festivities, which often continue well into the night.

The metro services will operate 12 extra trips daily during this period, adding to the regular schedule to make a total of 294 trips per day.

With a 15-minute headway between trains, the added trips are designed to minimize wait times and make it easier for festival-goers to travel between key locations.

This move reflects MMMOCL’s commitment to enhancing public transport accessibility during significant cultural events, allowing citizens to fully immerse themselves in the spirit of Navratri.

This decision was taken following the guidelines issued by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also holds the position of Chairman of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The Chief Minister’s instructions emphasized the importance of making transportation readily available during such large-scale public celebrations.

By following his directives, MMMOCL ensures that metro services are extended during a critical period for the city’s cultural calendar, highlighting the administration’s support for both cultural activities and public convenience.

The extra services will specifically cater to late-night travelers, with metro trains running past 11 pm between Andheri West and Gundavali stations. By extending services along this route, the corporation aims to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for thousands of Mumbai residents and visitors.

This initiative not only supports the city’s bustling festival atmosphere but also underscores MMMOCL’s dedication to improving the overall metro experience for its users.

Sanjay Mukherjee, the Metropolitan Commissioner of the MMRDA, made the official announcement, highlighting the critical need to enhance transportation services during the Navratri festival.

He stressed that the additional metro services are a direct response to the expected surge in travel demand as citizens participate in the celebrations. 

Mukherjee noted that providing seamless and accessible transportation is a priority to ensure that festival-goers can commute safely and efficiently throughout the festive period.

Recognizing the significance of Navratri in Mumbai’s cultural calendar, Mukherjee underscored the MMRDA’s commitment to supporting the city’s infrastructure needs during such large-scale public events.

He emphasized that the decision to extend metro services not only addresses the increased commuter traffic but also demonstrates the administration’s dedication to improving public transit options during key occasions.
