New Update

As per the latest development, the 428-km Leh-Manali National Highway is now open for vehicular movement.

Officials in the know-how added that the Border Roads Organisation has successfully reopened the national highway for vehicular movement after remaining shut for nearly five months due to heavy snowfall during the winter season.

The highway serves as the vital alternate route connecting the Union Territory of Ladakh with the rest of the country through Himachal Pradesh.

If reports are to go by, the closure of this arterial road commenced in November with the advent of winter and the accumulation of snow.

A spokesperson based in Leh from the defence sector confirmed that the road is now accessible to vehicular traffic again following the completion of the extensive snow clearance operation conducted by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO),

Reports add that this massive undertaking involved the coordinated efforts of the 111 Road Construction Company (RCC) and the 753 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) under Project HIMANK in Ladakh, alongside the 70 RCC and 38 BRTF under Project Deepak in Himachal Pradesh.

Detailing the complexity of the operation, the spokesperson highlighted that it commenced from two opposite ends, with separate teams of highly skilled personnel and advanced machinery working simultaneously and in coordination.

Officials further added that Project Deepak tackled the clearing from Manali to Sarchu, which marks the border between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, while Project Himank focused on clearing the highway from Leh to Sarchu.
