Delhi Metro sees surge with 7 lakh more riders amid heavy rainfall

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) witnessed an unprecedented surge of seven lakh additional passenger journeys as Delhiites opted for the metro to navigate the waterlogged city on Friday.

On June 28, the national capital recorded the rainiest June day in 88 years.

Despite heavy downpours that brought the national capital to a near standstill, the DMRC reported a total of 69,36,425 passenger journeys, up from 62,58,072 journeys recorded the previous day.

Additionally, DMRC maintained punctuality of 99.95 per cent despite heavy rains.

Anuj Dayal, the principal executive director of corporate communications at DMRC, highlighted that despite minor waterlogging issues outside stations and entry/exit points, the metro operated with exceptional punctuality exceeding 99 percent throughout the day.

The DMRC recorded the highest number of passenger journeys 71.09 lakh on February 13, 2024.
