Radiation oncology department of Sayaji Hospital with dental department successfully treated cancerous ulcer of the palate
Such procedures are rarely done in New Delhi AIIMS and Tata Memorial in Mumbai - Dr. Anil Goyal
The AIIMS in New Delhi and the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai provide the best treatment for cancer. A procedure that is rarely performed even in these hospitals has been successfully performed in the Radiation Oncology Department of Sayaji Hospital to relieve an elderly patient from a cancerous ulcer of the palate without shedding a drop of blood, pain or side effects. The dental department gave commendable assistance in this procedure.
Dr. Anil Goyal, Head of the Department, informed that the cancer was caused by a cancerous ulcer in the palate of this elderly patient. They decided to cure this patients with the help of a very advanced and expensive linear accelerator machine for radiation based treatment of cancer installed at department with the help of state government.
The problem was to deliver the catheter of the machine to the place of the ulcer in which Dr. Shoaib and his team of the dental department collaborated well in the treatment.
Dr. Goyal further said, they created a frame through which we were able to successfully remove the ulcer with radiation therapy by delivering the catheter to the affected area. This is probably the first time in Gujarat that successful treatment has been given with this procedure.
He said no surgery had to be performed, not a single drop of blood had flowed from the patient's body. The treatment is almost painless and has been done without side effects and the patient has not lost weight. The look of the face has also been intact. They are happy to help the patient with painless treatment.
Such treatment in private hospitals would cost more but this advanced treatment is done for free in the SSG hospital. Patient is having PMJY card as it becomes easier for him.
Dr. Goyal said that the big private cancer hospitals don't accept Ayushman and PMJY cards. The patients are very relieved as their department has the same advanced equipment same as the hospitals.
The medical superintendent of Sayaji Hospital, Dr. Ranjan Krishna Iyer also congratulated all for this successful cancer treatment.
