According to data issued by the Ministry of Health on Friday, India registered 1,49,394 new Covid-19 cases and 1,072 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 5,00,055. (February 4, 2022). There are 14,35,569 active cases.

In the last 24 hours, the active Covid-19 caseload has decreased by 98,352 cases. Today, 2,46,674 recoveries were made in the country, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 4,00,17,088.

Active cases account for 3.42 percent of all infections, with a national recovery rate of 95.39 percent for Covid-19.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was 9.27 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 12.03 percent.

Furthermore, the total number of doses provided in the country as part of the statewide Covid-19 vaccination effort has surpassed 168.47 crore. In the previous 24 hours, 16,11,666 tests were performed to detect the existence of the virus.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Ministry of Education announced new rules for school reopening, leaving states to make the ultimate decision based on their overall Covid status. The rules were created when states were consulted about reopening schools in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Dr VK Paul, Member (Health) Niti Aayog, said exclusively to ANI, "That (reopening of schools) has now been left to the state government. We explained these guidelines in more detail for the public to know and we hope that using these guidelines, there is a safe way of opening the schools and ensuring physical learning."

Dr Paul added, "These guidelines are from the union government in the form of advisory to the state governments and the states can take the decision based on their own overall situation using these guidelines as a guiding post. So these guidelines have been updated."
