Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launches statewide PCV vaccination from tribal area of Alhadpura in Chhotaudepur district on Wednesday. Under this vaccination program, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine-PCV will be given free of cost to children of one and half years from government hospitals, health centers, sub-centers and health and wellness centers in the state under the universal vaccination program by the Government of India.

In the private sector thr vaccine is available at a cost of Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,500. However under this universal program the government provide it free of cost to the children. An estimated 12 lakh children in the state will be given 3 doses in a year with a total of 36 lakh PCV doses.

The baby will be given the first dose of the vaccine at 6 weeks of age, the second dose at 14 weeks and the third booster dose after 9 months.
