Bengaluru: Dengue cases goes double, BBMP commissioner also got infected

As the monsoon advances, there has been a rise in dengue cases in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

In Bengaluru, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has tested positive for dengue and is currently recuperating at home.

Syed Sirajuddin Madani, the chief health officer for public health at BBMP, noted that Nath had been experiencing fatigue and fever over the past week.

Initially, these symptoms were attributed to work-related stress, but persistent illness led to a dengue test, which confirmed the infection.

Dengue cases in Bengaluru have seen a significant rise in the past two months, with June alone reporting 1,036 cases, a two-fold increase compared to the previous year, according to news reports.

Health experts have observed a cyclical pattern in dengue outbreaks, with severe seasons occurring every two to three years. They predict that dengue might be particularly severe this year in Telangana, similar to the 2019 outbreak when over 13,000 cases were recorded.
