Two pregnant women have tested positive for the Zika virus in Pune, bringing the total number of cases to six, confirmed an official on Monday.
Both women reside in Erandwane, just 150 metres away from the residence of a doctor and his teenage daughter, who were the first to test positive for the infection.
Zika virus disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which also spreads infections such as dengue and chikungunya. The virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947.
