Kejriwal announces weekend curfew in Delhi
New Update

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that weekend curfew would be imposed in the national capital to curb cases of COVID-19.

Speaking to mediapersons, Kejriwal declared, "There is no shortage of beds in hospitals in Delhi. According to the latest data, more than 5,000 beds are available.”

Kejriwal announced that gyms, malls and spas would be closed.

The measures came after Arvind Kejriwal met with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal earlier on Thursday.

Delhi had recorded its highest-ever single-day surge in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, recording 17,282 cases. The national capital recorded a positivity rate of 15.92 per cent.

Amid a massive surge in cases, the Delhi government on Wednesday issued an order to ramp up the number of beds reserved for COVID-19 patients at its hospitals and attach banquet halls and hotels to these facilities.

The move will add around 3,269 beds in COVID health facilities in the national capital. With a sharp rise in deaths due to the latest surge in COVID-19, crematoriums and burial grounds in the city are struggling to manage resources.
