Karnataka Health Minister B. Sriramulu, who tested coronavirus positive on Sunday, surprised everyone by getting admitted to the government hospital in Bengaluru.

Even as the common man alleged VIP culture among the elected representatives, after both Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah and their family members chose the private Manipal Hospital over government facilities for their coronavirus treatment, Sriramulu’s decision has earned appreciation from the people.

Sriramulu, who is Molkalmuru MLA, has been admitted to the Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar.

At least a dozen legislators and ministers have tested coronavirus positive and are either undergoing treatment in private hospitals or under home isolation. Many netizens called out the hypocrisy of politicians who claim that the government facility is good, but choose only private hositals for their treatment.

On Sunday, the state reported 5,985 new coronavirus cases and 107 deaths. The total number of active cases is 80,973. Coronavirus testing across 100 labs in the state has been scaled up to 40,000 tests per day.
