Jharkhand: Curfew in Lohardaga after stone pelting on VHP’s pro-CAA rally

Curfew was
imposed in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand on Friday, a day after violence
during a rally in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Schools and
colleges in Lohardaga have been closed for two days. Lohardaga District
Collector Akanksha Ranjan told sources about the situation in the district was
under control on Friday.

The violence erupted after stones were hurled at a rally taken out in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act on Thursday, police said. The incident happened when the rally, taken out by some Hindutva outfits, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, reached the Amlatoli Chowk area, they said.

Sources
reported several policemen and participants of the pro-CAA rally were injured. Shops
and vehicles were set ablaze during the violence.

Senior district
administration and police officials had rushed to the spot, while a large
contingent of police was also deployed.
