Jammu and Kashmir: Polling underway for fifth phase of DDC elections

In Jammu and Kashmir, polling is underway for the fifth phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections.

Polling, which began at 7 this morning, will end at 2 PM. Voting is taking place for 37 seats in this phase. Sources reports that 9.46 per cent voting was recorded till 9 AM.

Out of 37 constituencies, 17 are in Kashmir division and 20 in Jammu division. 155 candidates including 30 women are in the fray for 17 seats in Kashmir division. In Jammu division, 144 candidates including 40 women are in the fray for 20 seats.

Bypolls for 58 vacant seats of Sarpanch and 218 Panchs are also taking place today. In view of the Corona pandemic, adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of all stakeholders including voters.
