IRCTC continued to serve the society in these difficult times of COVID 19 pandemic with its objective of “Break the Hunger” through its “Mission Food Distribution.” IRCTC’s west zone served 5600 community meals on 15th April, 2020 from its base kitchen at Mumbai Central to NGOs spread over South and Central Mumbai like Giants Group, Nanhi Pari, Salaam Mumbai, Mc Aalms, Akhil Bharatiya Samiti, Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, Angels Charitable Trust.

Even BMC has come forward to provide assistance to IRCTC for distribution of food to the deserving and needy persons, who are finding it difficult to make their ends meet with the extended Nation wide lockdown due to Covid pandemic.

IRCTC’s base kitchen at Ahmedabad, provided 2500 community Bhojan packets to the Commercial and RPF Department staff for further distribution. Thus on 15th April, 2020 total 8,100 food packets were distributed by IRCTC over Western Rly through various teams of volunteers.

According to a press release issued by WR CPRO Ravinder Bhakar, considering the problems related to non availability of resources amongst the poor, stranded and needy persons due to national lockdown, in addition to IRCTC, Western Rly on its own too continued its mission food distribution on 15th April, 2020. So far, Mumbai Division of WR has supplied 1,01,260 meals & Ahmedabad division has supplied 87,750 food packets to poor and needy persons during corona lockdown period. Vadodara division has supplied 1500 food packets in Vadodara city.

Similarly, 350 food packets were distributed by Bhavnagar division with the help of NGOs at Junagadh and Bhavnagar stations. 275 food packets were distributed by Rajkot division. As an inspational initiative, various ration kits containing 5 kg aata, 5 kg rice, 2 kg mung daal, 1 litre oil & 1 kg sugar distributed to coolies, Safai staff and parcel staff at Wankaner station.

Satish Chandra-Senior Section Engineer & his helper Harshad of HAPA Carriage & Wagon Work shop after finishing their duty, have set a noble example of distribution of ration kits containing 5 kg Aata, Rice, Wheat, Masala, Salt , Onions, Potato etc to needy persons for last 5 days on their own expenses. 455 food packets were distributed by Ratlam Division. More over 40 ration kits containing 5 kg, 1 kg Sugar, 1 ltr Oil, , 250 gm Tea & 1 soap were distributed to cleaning staff of Indore station and coaching depot of Indore by Rly officials. RPF/WR prepared and distributed 870 food packets from its own sources as well as distributed 890 food packets provided by NGOs.
