The player
auction for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took place in
Kolkata on Thursday with Australian and West Indian cricketers featuring among
the most expensive purchases following an intense bidding war between the eight
franchises.

Australian
pacer Pat Cummins was picked up for a whopping Rs 15.5 crore by two-time
champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), becoming the most expensive purchase
ever for a foreign player in the history of the IPL.

Cummins is
also the second-most expensive purchase ever, behind Yuvraj Singh’s Rs 16 crore
bid by Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) ahead of the 2015 edition.

Maxwell, who
had recently taken a break from the sport due to mental health issues, returns
to the franchise that he had represented for four editions between 2014 and
2017. KXIP bagged the hard-hitting all-rounder, nicknamed the ‘Big Show’, for a
sum of Rs 10.75 crore.
