The player auction for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took place in Kolkata on Thursday with Australian and West Indian cricketers featuring among the most expensive purchases following an intense bidding war between the eight franchises.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins was picked up for a whopping Rs 15.5 crore by two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), becoming the most expensive purchase ever for a foreign player in the history of the IPL.

Cummins is also the second-most expensive purchase ever, behind Yuvraj Singh’s Rs 16 crore bid by Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) ahead of the 2015 edition.
