A five-member inter-ministerial team of the Central Government will be visiting Telangana today for an on-the-spot assessment of the damages suffered due to the recent heavy rainfall and floods. Hyderabad and some parts of the state witnessed heavy rain and floods last week causing huge damages.

Joint Secretary Praveen Vasishta will lead the team which will have R. B. Kaul from Finance Ministry, K. Manoharan from the Agriculture Ministry, S. K. Kushawaha from the Road Transport and Highways Ministry and one more officer from Jal Shakti Ministry will be the members. The team will visit the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and also worst-affected districts.

Meanwhile, Met officials informed that light to moderate rains likely for next two days at isolated places in the state. Sources reports that people of Hyderabad have got a brief respite from incessant rains but the flood condition in low lying areas is still continuing to be grim.

A few worst-hit residential colonies are still under water while some them are facing problems like post-flood sludge. As per the authorities, all 185 tanks and lakes in and around Hyderabad have water to their brim level and the people residing close by them especially in low lying areas are asked to remain in relief camps.

As per preliminary estimations, over three lakh poor families lost everything, including their ration, cloths and household things in the worst ever floods that Hyderabad witnessed in the past 100 years. The local teams of State Government and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are distributing the immediate assistance of 10 thousand rupees to each family. About 300 teams have been formed for the same.
