Terrorist attack Manipur: Rajnath Singh promises the culprits would be brought to justice.
New Update

The terrorist attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur's Churachandpur area was condemned by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday, who vowed the culprits will be brought to justice shortly.

"The cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Churachandpur, Manipur is extremely painful and condemnable. The nation has lost 5 brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members. My condolences to the bereaved families. The perpetrators will be brought to justice soon," Rajnath Singh tweeted

Colonel Viplav Tripathi, the 46 Assam Rifles' commanding officer, was in the convoy with his wife and kid, as well as soldiers from the Quick Reaction Team (QRT).

The caravan was on its way to a rural village in the Churachandpur district when it was attacked about 10 a.m.

The terrorists opened fire with automatic weapons, killing all seven victims on the spot, police authorities told the Associated Press on Saturday.

No terrorist group has claimed credit for the incident so far. According to the Associated Press, the ambush was most likely carried out by the People's Liberation Army.

State authorities and the paramilitary have already begun hunting down the terrorists, according to Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh, who also stated that the criminals will be brought to justice.

Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal chief minister, also offered her condolences to the bereaved families.

"I strongly condemn the dastardly attack by militants on a convoy of 46 Assam Rifles in Manipur. It pains me to learn that we have lost five brave soldiers, including the CO & his family members. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The entire nation awaits justice!" Banerjee tweeted.
