Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that cultural pillars like language, literature, art, and spirituality shape a nation’s identity.

He emphasized that while the country is moving forward on the path of development, it remains deeply rooted in self-respect, self-confidence, and self-pride.

Speaking during the International Abhidhamma Divas programme in New Delhi today, the Prime Minister pointed towards the teaching of Lord Buddha.

He said, India has embarked on a transformative journey, known as Amrit Kaal, which will culminate in 2047.

He said, this period will witness the nation’s emergence of a developed India. He said, guided by the wisdom of Lord Buddha, the country’s development road map will bring unprecedented and positive changes. He said, the country is charting a new course for growth by following Buddha’s timeless teachings.

Prime Minister Modi also called on the nation’s youth to take pride in their culture and values while leading the world in science and technology.

On the government’s decision of conferring classical language status to Pali language, PM Modi said, languages are not just a medium of conversation and it is the soul of civilization and culture.

He said, the central government has given the status of classical language to the Pali language and it makes the celebration of Abhidhamma divas historic this year.

He said, giving status of classical language to Pali language is a respect to the great heritage of Lord Buddha.

 Highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to preserve the country’s rich heritage and culture, the Prime Minister said 600 ancient artifacts and relics from different countries of the world have been brought back to the country.

On the teachings of the Buddha, Mr Modi said, Dhamma means Buddha’s message, Buddha’s principles and solution to questions related to human existence.

He said, Dhamma is the path of peace for all human beings. He said, the Abhidhamma Divas remind us that compassion and goodwill are the keys to making the world a better place.

On this auspicious occasion of Abhidhamma Divas, the Prime Minister extended greetings to all, especially to the followers of Lord Buddha. He said, today marks the sacred festival of Sharad Purnima and the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki Ji.

Government’s recent decision to accord classical language status to Pali has been lauded by several educationists and scholars. Talking to Akashwani News, a scholar Dr Bhadant Rahul lauded the decision saying it will create awareness among people about Pali language and the youth of the country will benefit from it.

A student of History, Chhaya also lauded the government’s decision to accord classical language status to Pali.
