Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation and laid foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over 1,150 crore rupees at Kavaratti Island in Lakshadweep today.

These projects include a Submarine Optical Fiber cable project, a drinking water supply scheme and a battery-backed solar power project.

The Submarine Optical Fiber Connection between Kochi and Lakshadweep islands will be a game changer for the people of the remote islands, struggling with slow internet speeds.

The project will boost the internet speed in the islands 100 times, from 1.7 giga bits to 200 giga bits per second.

The project will vastly improve communication infrastructure in Lakshadweep, enabling faster and reliable internet services, telemedicine, e-governance, educational initiatives, digital banking and digital literacy among other things.

Another project launched today is the Functional Household Tap connections in all households of Agatti and Minicoy islands.

These projects will also help in strengthening the tourism capacity of the islands, leading to increased employment opportunities for the youth.

PM Modi also dedicated the first battery-backed solar power project, which will help reduce the island's dependency on diesel-based power generation plants.

The new administrative block of the India Reserve Battalion and an 80-men barrack in Kavaratti were also opened by the Prime Minister.

He also laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Primary Health Care facility at Kalpeni, and the construction of Anganwadi centers in the islands of Androth, Chetlat, Kadamat, Agatti and Minicoy. "
