The Nation is paying tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar on his 65th Mahaparinirvan Diwas or death anniversary today. A number of functions are being organised all over the country to highlight the contribution of Dr Ambedkar in nation-building.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Virendra Kumar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Union Ministers, Members of Parliament paid floral tributes to the architect of the Constitution at his statue in the Parliament House complex in New Delhi.

Buddhist monks are reciting Dhamma Puja, and special songs dedicated to Dr Ambedkar are being performed in the Parliament by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's Song and Drama Division.

Narendra Modi said, we the countrymen should never forget the basic spirit of our Constitution, that our Constitution expects all of us to discharge our duties. Mr Modi called upon countrymen to take a pledge that in the Amrit Mahotsav, we will try to fulfill our duties with full devotion and it will be our true tribute to Baba Saheb.

Facing threat from the new Covid-19 variant Omicron, the Maharashtra govt has issued specific guidelines to mark the Mahaparinivan Divas today when lakhs of followers of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar from across the country gather at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai for paying tributes to the great leader.

Sources reports,The state government has made it clear that persons who have taken both the doses of the vaccine would be allowed to enter the premises only after a thermal screening. Covid appropriate behavior such as wearing masks, using hand sanitizers and maintaining social distance will be mandatory for every visitor. Any sort of public gathering near the premises won't be allowed.

The govt has also prohibited setting up of any food or book stalls in and around the area. The government has asked all the district collectors of the state to make necessary arrangements in their respective districts to avoid large gatherings.

The railway police have also been asked to regulate the crowd in Dadar station in central Mumbai where people alight to visit Chaityabhoomi. Meanwhile in Maharashtra so far eight persons have been found to be infected with the Omicron variant of Covid -19.
