Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today inaugurated the Swarnim Vijay Parv at India Gate in Delhi. The two-day Parv has been organised to commemorate 50 years of India's historic victory in the 1971 War and the Indo-Bangladesh friendship. Major weapons and equipment used during the 1971 war is being displayed along with the snippets of major battles.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said, India has contributed to the establishment of democracy in Bangladesh and today we are very happy that in the last 50 years Bangladesh has progressed on the path of development. He said, the aim of the government is to keep Indian armed forces ready for any eventuality and India is moving very fast in this direction.
He said, the 1971 war is a great example of jointness and integration between the three armies. Mr Singh said, 1971 war has taught us the importance of planning, training and fighting together.
The Minister said, today he bowed to the bravery, valor and sacrifice of every soldier of India's Armed Forces, due to which India won the 1971 war. He said, the country will always be indebted to them for their sacrifice.
