According to officials, the group — including 4,723 men, 1,071 women, 37 children, and 580 sadhus and sadhvis — departed in 291 vehicles, divided into two convoys for the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. The convoys left at 3:15 AM and 4:00 AM, escorted by CRPF personnel under a robust security arrangement.
3,622 pilgrims took the 48-km traditional Pahalgam route in 138 vehicles. 2,789 pilgrims opted for the 14-km Baltal route in 153 vehicles.
With this departure, the total number of pilgrims who have left Jammu since the yatra began on Wednesday has reached 17,549.
Yatra Continues Despite Security Concerns
The 38-day yatra, which commenced from Pahalgam (Anantnag) and Baltal (Ganderbal) on July 3, has already seen over 14,000 pilgrims reach the 3,880-metre-high shrine. The pilgrimage continues amid heightened security following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed.
The Bhagwati Nagar base camp is under a multi-layered security cover, and authorities have significantly stepped up vigilance along the route.
Massive Response and Infrastructure Setup
This year, over 3.5 lakh pilgrims have registered online for the yatra. To support the influx:
- 34 accommodation centres have been set up across Jammu.
- RFID tags are being issued for real-time tracking of pilgrims.
- 12 on-the-spot registration counters are operational at the base camp.
The Amarnath Yatra 2025 is scheduled to conclude on August 10.
