India becomes fastest country in the world to administer 10 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine in record 85 days

India has scaled another peak in its effort to contain the COVID-19 virus with the administration of more than ten crore vaccines to its citizens. Health Ministry said, India is the fastest country in the world to achieve the 10 crore vaccination mark in just 85 days.

The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on 16th January this year. United States has administered over 92 million doses in 85 days and China over 61 million doses in the same period. The Ministry said, more than 29 lakh 65 thousand vaccine doses were given till 8 PM yesterday.

The Ministry said, the achievement is also a testimony of the whole of society approach where individuals ignored rumours and propaganda of vested interests, shunned their vaccine hesitancy and strengthened the hand of the administration in curbing COVID-19.

The vaccination exercise continues to be regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level. The extension of vaccine coverage to those above 45 years along with the recent provisions for them to get vaccinated at their workplaces form a series of pro-active, collaborative and coordinated steps taken by government for safety of precious lives. This along with the efficient clinical management has ensured that India has the lowest fatality rate in the world, which is 1.28 per cent.
