Happy Birthday to “Prince of Calcutta” Saurav Ganguly

A former Indian cricketer and captain of Indian national cricket team Saurav Chandidas Ganguly is also known as the prince of Calcutta and affectionately known as Dada. Currently he is performing his duty as president of Cricket Association of Bengal and president of Editorial Board with Wisden India.

Saurav was born on 8 July, 1972 in behala, Calcutta with silver spoon. His father Chandidas was a secretary of cricket Association of Bengal and also one of the richest person in Calcutta. Saurav was inspired by his brother Snehasish Ganguly who played for Bengal.

Due to the match-fixing scandals in 2000 by other players of the team, and for his poor health, Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar resigned his position, and Ganguly was made the captain of the Indian cricket team.Which affect team’s performance. But he performed very well as a captain and was regarded as one of India's most successful captains in modern times.

Ganguly started his career in one-day international on 11 January, 1992 against West Indies and test match against England in 1996. He also joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a captain for the IPL cricket tournament in 2008.

He was awarded with Banga Bibhushan Award. At present Saurav Ganguly is appointed as Justice Mudgal Committee probe panel for the IPL Spot fixing and betting scandal’s investigations.
