Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway chaired the Performance Review Meeting, held at Samvad Hall, Western Railway HQs, Churchgate, Mumbai on 7th July, 2021. He took stock of the Division-wise performance progress of various key parameters for the quarter ending June 2021.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the performance review meeting was held to detail further the progress of major issues pertaining to Safety, Punctuality, Freight Loading, Infrastructure projects, Initiatives to increase revenue & reduce cost, Initiatives to increase efficiency.

The position report of the parameters vis-a-vis assigned targets and deliberations on the future course of action required in order to achieve corporate goals & measures to excel further ahead, was also discussed in length. A presentation detailing the last year's achievement as well as highlighting the current achievements were presented and explained by Principal Head of Departments (PHODs) & DRMs including the action plan to attain the targets.

Thakur stated that, at the outset GM Kansal applauded the stupendous performance of Western Railway in various fields. He appreciated the punctuality performance of Mail/Express (MSPC) WR trains during 2021-22 (upto June) which stood at 98.26% and is well above the Railway Board's target of 90%. He further stated that WR has achieved loading of 20.20 MT in the last three months which is 43% higher than the corresponding period last year.

GM exhorted the efforts taken to increase the freight revenues and encouraged the Divisions to boost their marketing efforts inorder to reach out to more potential customers. The BDU of Divisions have been entrusted to conduct regular meetings & proactive interactions with Chamber of Commerce, Trade & Industries, State Govt. Officials and handling agents, etc. for mapping the potential customers & attracting new traffic. He has also directed the DRMs for upgradation of freight terminals as well as the Goods sheds to be well-equipped to meet the requirements of the new traffic.

Moreover, Kansal has also emphasized to monitor the CAPEX on day-to-day basis for undertaking the various schemes. He further directed to spend judiciously with the motto of 'Earn More & Save More'. Though the revenue from Coaching segment has dropped significantly, it is picking up slowly & steadily. GM also stressed on the upkeep & cleanliness of stations as well as railway premises and has directed to conduct regular cleanliness drives to check the deficiencies & initiate suitable action plan to redress them.

GM Kansal upheld the mission to ensure Zero Deaths and instructed to initiate all necessary steps to accomplish this goal. Another vital issue discussed included speeding up of the safety related works such as construction of ROBs/ RUBs, elimination of Manned Level Crossings & closure of Level Crossings by diversion or direct closure. The problem of water logging in the old RUBs need to be addressed. Future constructions should have designed drainages in built.

He also reviewed the progress of the ongoing infrastructural & upgradation works pertaining to construction of New Lines, Gauge Conversion, Doubling, Electrification, etc. and stressed on the speedy completion of these projects well within the target dates. He also took stock of the remainder monsoon preparatory works in the Mumbai suburban section for ensuring a smooth & hassle-free commuting for the passengers even during heavy rainfall.

The meeting was attended by Additional General Manager, Principal Head of Departments (PHODs), Divisional Railway Managers of all six divisions of WR and senior railway officials.
