In the wake of recent situation of new COVID-19 Variant of Concern (VoC) – Omicron, it has become necessary to take concrete steps with pro-active approach to ensure proper arrangements at the railway hospitals for providing the best possible treatment and care to the COVID affected patients in the Railway Hospitals of WR.
In continuation to this goal, Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway inaugurated a PSA Oxygen Plant at Railway Main Hospital, Dahod on 9th December, 2021. This is the 8th PSA Oxygen Plant commissioned by Western Railway.
According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, a PSA Oxygen Plant with a capacity of 180 LPM has been commissioned which will supply continuous oxygen to indoor patients of Railway Main Hospital, Dahod. This hospital has a total strength of 105 beds & the newly commissioned PSA will be able to supply oxygen to 41 beds. This Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Plant will be helpful in prevention of shortage of oxygen crisis during emergency situations. The PSA plant has been installed at an approx. cost of Rs 40 Lakhs.
Western Railway has commissioned such PSA Oxygen Plants at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Divisional Railway Hospitals at Sabarmati, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Vadodara and Ratlam as well. With these sustained efforts, WR is moving ahead towards attaining PM's vision of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat'. In the battle against COVID - 19 pandemic, these oxygen plants will ensure self-sufficiency of medical oxygen & its uninterrupted supply during crisis, bringing relief to the needy patients.
Speaking on this occasion, Kansal stated that the commissioning of this PSA Oxygen plant will go a long way to make WR free from the dependency on Oxygen cylinders & it will ensure self – sufficiency. He stated that the Doctors and paramedics should receive adequate training to run this plant and for handling oxygen support systems. GM asserted on adopting proactive approach towards preventive medical healthcare for the employees.
He further emphasized that the healthcare facility being provided to the employees should be the best. He insisted that we should be fully prepared to tackle any situation in this regard. GM exhorted that everyone should follow Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) at all the time. Also, vaccination of employees and family members should be ensured as it is reported that the incidence of severity is less in vaccinated individuals.
The meeting was attended by Additional General Manager, Principal Chief Medical Director and other Principal Head of Departments of Western Railway while the Divisional Railway Manager of Ratlam, Chief Workshop Manager – Dahod & Chief Medical Superintendent – Dahod & her team joined through video conferencing.
