Indian Railways continue to transport Liquid Medical Oxygen to various states in mission mode to bring relief to the patients. In this connection, Western Railway has scored a century by running 100th Oxygen Express train on 26th June, 2021. This milestone could be achieved due to the dedicated efforts of officers & staff inspite of hardships of present Covid pandemic.
According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway- Sumit Thakur, Western Railway has till now run 100 Oxygen Express trains carrying approx. 8971.19 tonnes of LMO to nine states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
It is worth mentioning that the first Oxygen Express was run as Ro-Ro service with loaded trucks of LMO on BWT wagons on 25th April. 2021 from Hapa of Rajkot Division of Western Railway to Kalamboli in Maharashtra. Since then, Western Railway has run 100 Oxygen Express trains in the service of the nation. The 100th Oxygen Express was run on 26th June, 2021 from Reliance Rail Terminal, Kanalus in Rajkot Division for Guntur in Andhra Pradesh carrying 137.21 tonnes of LMO in eight oxygen tankers. These trains are being run on priority by providing through paths to to enable them to reach faster to their destination.
Through these Oxygen Express trains, Liquid Medical Oxygen was provided to Covid-19 patients who were in dire need of oxygen across the country, thereby saving precious lives of many citizens. Indian Railways is committed to supply as much LMO as possible in the shortest possible time to the States in need of oxygen.
