Western Railway continues to break all barriers in achieving impressive performance in many fields. In the current financial year, WR has earned revenue of above Rs 3100 crore. It has been achieved inspite of the covid pandemic, where manpower was minimal.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, goods & parcel special trains have been continuously traversing across the country to keep the supply of essential commodities moving. Special Passenger/ Express trains are also being announced from time to time, to help passengers reach their destination. In financial year 2021-22, WR recorded revenue of Rs 3106 crore, which includes Goods revenue of Rs 2527 Cr; Passenger revenue of Rs 378 Cr; Revenue through Other Coaching Rs 104 Cr and Sundry revenue of Rs 97 Cr. The revenue has been more than 63 percent as compared to corresponding period of last year.

Thakur further said that, Western Railway has run 207 parcel trains from 1st April, 2021 to 3rd July, 2021 to transport essential commodities to various parts of the country. During this period, the loading in goods trains recorded 20.95 million tonnes as compared to 15.80 million tonnes in the corresponding period of last year. In the same period, Western Railway has transported commodities weighing approx. 76 thousand tonnes through its various parcel special trains, which included agricultural produce, medicines, medical equipment, fish, milk etc. The revenue generated through this transportation, has been approx Rs. 25.72 crore. 47 Milk Special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of above 33 thousand tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons.

Similarly, 57 COVID-19 special parcel trains with a load of more than 9000 tonnes were also run to transport essential commodities. In addition to this, 35 indented rakes carrying approx. 17300 tonnes were also run with 100% utilization. To help the farmers find new markets for their produce and also for its economical and fast transportation, 68 Kisan Rails with load of approx. 16000 tonnes have also been run during this period from various divisions.

Business Development Units (BDUs) are in constant contact with the existing and probable freight customers to encourage them to transport their goods through railways with the incentives introduced by the Railway Board for quick, reliable, economical & bulk transportation of their goods.
